A brief history of Disney Village

Disney Village opened on 12 April 1992, initially under the name Disney Festival à Eurodisney (the name Disney Village was adopted in 1995) and designed by the famous American architect Frank Gehry.

The location of Disney Village is very central in the Disneyland Paris complex as it is flanked on one side by the theme parks Disneyland and Disney Adventure World, RER, TGV and Bus stations, and the Disneyland Hotel, while on the other side you find the 5 other Disney hotels and the Disney lake.

Disney Village is constantly evolving and improvements are regularly made. We should note the major transformation/renovation of 2005 which sees the disappearance of some large columns, the starry sky and the central stage. That year, green spaces and terraces replaced some shops, PanoraMagique was launched, the Gaumont cinema complex was expanded and provided with an Imax room.

Some key dates:

  • 1997: creation of the Gaumont cinema
  • 2000: appearance of the Minnie Train
  • 2001: extension of the Disney Store
  • 2002: Café Mickey replaces the Los Angeles Bar & Grill restaurant
  • 2003: King Ludwig’s Castle replaces the Rock’n’Roll America restaurant
  • 2009: Starbucks Coffee replaces the Buffalo Trading Company shop
  • 2010: creation of the Disney Events Arena
  • 2011: opening of the Earl of Sandwich restaurant
  • 2012: opening of World of Disney
  • 2013: Lego Store replaces the Hollywood Pictures shop
  • 2016: opening of the Vapiano restaurant

Transformation of Disney Village between 2024 and 2026

From 2024 to 2026, major works are planned to improve the visitor experience across the 40,000m2 of Disney Village.
The Disney Fashion, Disney Fashion Jr, and The Disney Gallery shops will be fitted with transparent windows and completely renovated interiors.

The main street will be transformed by adding more greenery, new flooring, and more protection against bad weather. A more modern, natural, and dynamic result is expected.

An extension on the lake side and the construction of a new hotel are also mentioned.

The Annette’s Diner restaurant will probably be rethemed around Disney Pixar Cars, and the Planet Hollywood sphere will be demolished.

A new restaurant, Brasserie Rosalie, replaced Café Mickey in 2023.
